Appointments to the BASES’ Heads of Department Advisory Group

9th December 2021

Further to open recruitment last month for applications to be a member, and the next Chair, of the BASES’ Heads of Department Advisory Group (HoD AG), we are pleased to announce that Prof Lars McNaughton FBASES has been appointed as incoming Chair and Dr Jessica Hill as a new member of the Advisory Group.

Lars is a Professor of Sport and Exercise Physiology at Edge Hill University and a member of the senior management team in the Department of Sport and Physical Activity where he also manages its undergraduate Sport and Exercise Science team. He is a long-time supporter of BASES and was awarded Fellowship 10 years ago.

Jess is Interim Head of Department for the Sport and Exercise Science department at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, covering four undergraduate programmes and seven postgraduate programmes. She has been a BASES member, a lecturer in Sport and Exercise science and a practicing physiologist since 2008.

Lars and Jess will join current members of the HoD AG: Dr Joanne Hudson FBASES, Dr Kiara Lewis FBASES, Dr Martyn Morris and Jocelyn Tantawy.

Lars will work closely with the current Chair, Assoc Prof Lance Doggart FBASES for a smooth hand-over, leading into the next Heads of Department Forum on 15 March 2022, hopefully taking place in person at Coventry University (TBC).

Commenting on his tenure as HoD AG Chair, Assoc Prof Lance Doggart FBASES said, “It has been a fantastic experience to work with colleagues in the Advisory Group to promote and share the work associated with being a Head of Department in sport and exercise and to promote the role of BASES in supporting HoDs at this level. I wish the Group continued success in developing this key facet of engagement, for BASES members, in the future."

Commenting on his appointment as incoming Chair, Prof Lars McNaughton FBASES said, “This is fantastic news. I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as incoming Chair of the HoD AG. I am looking forward to working with colleagues on the Advisory Group to help BASES plan and implement the annual HoDs Forum."
