BASES Conference 2018

29th November 2018

BASES Conference 2018 took place on 27-28 November at Harrogate Convention Centre; two inspiring days filled with world-leading insight and expertise.

Thank you to all delegates, speakers, presenters, exhibitors and Gold Supporters: Renew Health Limited, Wolverson Fitness, COSMED and Catapult Sports for being part of the conference.

Professor Steven N. Blair opened the conference with his invited keynote: - ‘Physical activity for health: the past, the present and the future’. Following this were a number of thought provoking parallel invited symposia including ‘Diet, exercise and health: is sugar the enemy?’ A passionate debate between Prof Jason Gill FBASES, and Dr Trudi Deakin. Victoria Gosling (British Skiing and Snowboarding; former CEO of the Invictus Games) inspired the audience with her pre-dinner presentation and the first day ended with entertainment provided by the BASES band!

The second day also featured a variety of parallel invited symposia including ‘Research Excellence Framework 2021: key criteria and working methods’ presented by Prof Marie Murphy FBASES and Prof Bill Baltzopoulos FBASES. Professor Jens Bangsbo closed the conference with his invited keynote: ‘Training of elite soccer players: coaching physiology at the elite level’. Several sessions from the conference have been recorded and will be available in the Members’ Area of the BASES website shortly.

Well done to everyone who presented and congratulations to all award winners. All accepted conference abstracts will be published in an online supplement of the Journal of Sports Sciences. Free-access will be available upon publication of the supplement, until 31 December 2018, at www.tandfonline.com/rjsp.
