BASES signs up to Sport England’s Going for Green Pledge
18th July 2024
BASES has joined a number of sports and physical activity organisations who have pledged to support the Sport England ‘Going for Green’ initiative, ensuring our sector is in the leading pack in tackling climate change. The pledge aims to promote environmental sustainability by:
- reducing energy and water usage
- championing walking, cycling and lift sharing when travelling to activities
- drastically reducing reliance on single use plastics
- recycling waste and increasing the reuse of sports equipment and kit
- boosting activity to nurture nature and wildlife.
Commenting on this, Dr Ash Willmott, Chair of the Climate Action and Sustainability Advisory Group (CASAG) said, “BASES is proud to sign up to the Sport England ‘Going for Green’ pledge. Even as a small organisation, we are already meeting/promoting many of their targets. The work of the CASAG aligns very closely to their pledge too. Indeed, the Group has already started discussions around reusing lab equipment that may be thrown away, and what BASES’ possible role could be in brokering a second-hand equipment scheme, appreciating the practicalities of getting equipment moved.”
