The Organising Committee of Solent University and BASES, the
British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, have considered all the
current information available to them from Government agencies including
potential bans on mass gathering. Due to this we have decided to POSTPONE
the BASES Student Conference 2020 from 15-16 April 2020 to the following
April.
The specific dates of the BASES Student Conference 2021, taking
place at Solent University will be provided shortly. Likewise, the University
of Huddersfield will then host the BASES Student Conference 2022 in April
2022, dates to be confirmed.
The decision was not made lightly, but the well-being, health and safety of
our members, staff and volunteers is paramount. It is important for BASES and
Solent University to be responsible and play our role in helping to decrease
possible social transmission.
A number of sport and exercise science students have already registered for
the conference. With many workplaces concerned about the impact of COVID-19
on their businesses, we have seen a number implement domestic travel bans and
we were expecting this number to grow during the next few weeks.
Next week, the Organising Committee will send further correspondence to
all persons involved regarding their registration and other payments made to
the BASES Student Conference 2020. There will be options of transfers to the
2021 conference or refunds. We appreciate the importance of this matter
and it is one of our top priorities.
We would like to thank the Conference Organising Committee for all the work
they have undertaken to date for the conference.
Further information will be provided as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and support in
this matter.
Kind regards,
