Black History Month 2022

28th October 2022

For this Black History Month, BASES has teamed up with Black Biomechanists Association to recognise the achievements of Black Biomechanicist worldwide who are making an impact in the field of biomechanics and helping to move forward diversity within sport science.

If you wish to be highlighted please submit your information here: https://tinyurl.com/UKBHM22

We would like to honour Brooke Odle who is training the next generation of engineering students at Hope College. Through her work in teaching and progressing research in wearable tech; she has worked w/different students & researchers, which has enriched her work.

Today we would like to celebrate Shirley Acquah-Davis who is committed to using sport tech to measure & evaluate human movement. Here she is with Black Biomechanists Association discussing what biomechanics means to her and what it means to be a black biomechanist.

Today we would like to highlight the co-founders of Black Biomechanists Association. Over the short time that BBA has existed they have worked to promote, uplift, and encourage black biomechs worldwide.

Today we highlight Chris Wilburn, Black Biomechanists Association, an Asst. Clinical Professor of Kines at Auburn University. His research looks at the influence of footwear on locomotive patterns. Please take a look as he speaks on his importance as a black biomechanist.

Today we celebrate Skylar Holmes, whose work focuses on determining the biomechanical consequences of muscle fatigue in older adults with knee osteoarthritis. Skylar is doing important work that would improve the quality of life for many. #BlackBiomxBHM
