CSEP Get Active for Pregnancy questionnaire

Dr Victoria Meah, a BASES member, is working alongside CSEP, the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, in the development of the Get Active for Pregnancy questionnaire. This is the successor to the PARMed-X for Pregnancy. As both an academic researcher and registered exercise professional in the UK, Victoria used the latter as a pre-screening tool for supporting pregnant women in all of her professional capacities.

The CSEP Get Active Questionnaire for Pregnancy Working Group is hoping to gain as much feedback as possible to ensure that this tool is both user friendly and effective. As such, they asked BASES to share the following online survey and information to our members to help them in this endeavour.

Thank you for your time in considering this survey.

CSEP Get Active for Pregnancy questionnaire Details

We invite you as either 1) a pregnant or postpartum woman, or 2) an obstetric health care provider, fitness professional, researcher, or knowledge translation expert with a professional interest in exercise during pregnancy to participate in a survey to voice your opinion on a draft of the Get Active Questionnaire for Pregnancy.

In 2002, the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) developed the PARmed-X for Pregnancy as an exercise pre-participation screening tool for pregnant women. Despite its strong safety record, a major drawback of the PARmed-X for Pregnancy was the requirement to be cleared by a health care provider prior to beginning or continuing to be physically active, which created a barrier to engaging in physical activity during pregnancy.

The Get Active Questionnaire for Pregnancy Working Group was convened to update the exercise pre-screening tool for pregnant women, which will replace the PARmed-X for Pregnancy. This Working Group developed a draft version of the Get Active Questionnaire for Pregnancy. The goal of this document is to identify women who should speak to their health care provider about physical activity during pregnancy. For those women who complete the Get Active Questionnaire for Pregnancy and are recommended to consult with their health care provider, we have developed a Health Care Provider Consultation Form for Prenatal Physical Activity to facilitate the discussion between patient and health care provider.

Prior to finalising the Get Active Questionnaire for Pregnancy/Health Care Provider Consultation Form for Prenatal Physical Activity, we are seeking your feedback.

Your participation is voluntary and will involve completing a questionnaire. You have the option of skipping questions. The questionnaire does not require personal identifying information, is completely confidential and should only take 10 minutes of your time. As this questionnaire is confidential, you cannot withdraw your data after submitting the survey.

The questionnaire can be accessed by clicking below and is submitted electronically: https://forms.gle/Ms7HLaE8MfB8fh1b7

Please note: The Get Active Questionnaire for Pregnancy/Health Care Provider Consultation Form for Prenatal Physical Activity are in draft form and are intended to be kept confidential until their final release.

This stakeholder survey will be open until midnight EST on 5 August 2020.
