2nd May 2023
As part of an ongoing review of BASES’ governance, the Directors considered introducing the roles of Deputy Chair and Senior Non-Executive Director within the Board. The main responsibilities of the Deputy Chair are to deputise as Chair at both Board meetings and wider official events, in the absence of the Chair, and to support the Chair in providing direction, support and coordination to the Board. The Senior Non-Executive Director has a key role in supporting the Chair in leading the Board of Directors and acting as a critical friend, sounding board and source of advice for the Chair and Chief Executive Officer.
At its meeting on 24 April 2023, the Board confirmed the appointment of Dr Lindsay Bottoms FBASES as Deputy Chair and Ms Susan Went as Senior Non-Executive Director. Commenting on the appointments, Prof Zoe Knowles FBASES said, “I want to congratulate Lindsay and Susan on their appointments and for Lindsey her role will see her manage key strategic projects for the Association identified by our members in recent consultation events. Susan is an experienced NED and brings a wealth of experience to this new role with a particular remit to support myself and the Chief Executive and our work portfolios.”
Dr Lindsay Bottoms FBASES, Director and Chair of the Physiology and Nutrition Division said, “I am excited and grateful to have this opportunity to support BASES in this new role and I look forward to working more closely with the BASES team.”
