Recruiting for members of the BASES Integrity Advisory Group
9th January 2025
Are you passionate about Ethics, Duty of Care, Safeguarding, Welfare, and Clean Sport within the sport and exercise sciences? Can you help to provide BASES members and the public with increased knowledge, confidence and skills around these important matters? If so, we would love to hear from you!
We are currently recruiting for graduate and professional members, from both academics and applied practitioners, to join the BASES Integrity Advisory Group (IAG). We are particularly interested in hearing from members with experience in Safeguarding, those involved in Exercise and Public Health, and those Early Career Practitioners. Appointments will be for three years in the first instance, with an expectation to attend quarterly online meetings. You will be expected to support a number of the IAG priority projects between the meetings, when needed, such as developing BASES’ safeguarding education, driving clean sport, and promoting awareness around various matters linked to integrity in sport and exercise. The Advisory Group’s terms of reference can be found here (Appx AG6, pg 42-43).
The appointment of the above roles will be via a formal, open and transparent recruitment process, with the aim of attracting the widest range of the most suitable talent. At BASES, we are committed to Fairness, Professionalism, Honesty, Responsibility and Excellence. We strive to improve our ways of working to be more inclusive and diverse, to accelerate our impact on society and live up to our Values. We acknowledge that we lack representation from various underrepresented groups and therefore strongly encourage applications that will amplify the voices of people with a disability, those from culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds, women or gender diverse people in STEMM and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Please notify the Chief Executive Officer (iwilson@bases.org.uk) if you require reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process.
If you would like to discuss these roles in more detail, before making an application, please email Dr James Newman, Chair, BASES IAG (J.Newman@shu.ac.uk).
To apply for these current vacancies, please submit a maximum of two pages of A4, outlining:
- why you are interested in this role
- what skills and experience you would bring to the Integrity Advisory Group that are currently missing
- which of the IAG initiatives, to date, speak to you most and why
- how you will improve equity, diversity, and inclusion within the context of the Integrity Advisory Group, and
- any ideas you have about moving forward the work and priorities of the Integrity Advisory Group and BASES.
Please email this to iwilson@bases.org.uk by 10 am (GMT) on Monday 3 February 2025. Please mark this email as confidential and within the subject header, please add “BASES Integrity Advisory Group expression of interest”.
