The Science Council’s Celebration of Science 2024
29th November 2024
The Science Council 2024 Celebration of Science took place on 26 November, combining their annual prizegiving celebrations with the biennial Sir Gareth Roberts Lecture.
The Celebration of Science celebrates and showcases exceptional achievements within the Science Council’s science community. This year marked the tenth anniversary of the CPD Awards, which recognises registrants at various career stages who have demonstrated excellence in professional development and exemplary practice. The Celebration also highlights the contribution of Science Council volunteers, who are central to everything they do. At the event, they celebrated the impact of technical education in shaping careers, honoured the achievements of apprentices, and presented the Apprentice Ambassador Award.
This year, BASES did not receive any applications from Chartered Scientists (CSci) and so could not nominate into the CPD Awards. In 2023, Phil Graham-Smith was a recipient of a CPD award. We hope our registrants will apply next year for the 2025 CPD Awards.
BASES was represented at the event by former Chair, Dr Andy Smith MBE FBASES, who commented: “'The CPD awards were made in the presence of Sir Paul Nurse OM CH FRS, winner of the 2001 Noble Prize in Physiology and Medicine, who, later in the evening, shared his thoughts on a range of topics. Given the prestige of these Science Council awards and the importance of CPD, it would be great if we could have another BASES member recognised in 2025.”
